Advanced pulse eddy current (PEC+) technology for automatic examination of steel plates for detection of hard spots

Abstract: Non-destructive inspection of steel plates for "hard spots" (HS) is a modern requirement imposed by most energy companies on steel plate manufacturers. The most suitable testing method involves the application of eddy current (EC) probes, specifically pulse eddy current (PEC) probes, which are generally sensitive to areas with abnormal hardness. However, a significant challenge in the industrial application of EC or PEC probes lies in the inevitable residual magnetization of plates and other rolled materials. Various other interfering factors, such as scale, variations in lift-off, and the "edge effect," can also lead to false indications or the omission of critical HS. NORDINKRAFT AG has pioneered a unique test technology based on what is known as "multifrequency analysis." The corresponding algorithms, both in hardware and software, enable the suppression or even neutralization of the negative influence of the aforementioned interfering factors on the inspection results.
