Study design: Clinical Trial
Abstract: This study aimed to evaluate, in randomized controlled clinical trials, the antimicrobial effect of an ozonated dermocosmetic for the treatment of skin wounds. It was carried out with patients who had skin wounds (research ethics committee approval no. 4,246,236). The patients were randomly allocated into Group 1 (treatment with ozonated dermocosmetic) and Group 2 (treatment with conventional dressing). The treatments were performed 3 times a week for 12 weeks. In the macroscopic evaluation after 12 weeks, an improvement in the appearance of the lesions was observed, including an increase in granulation tissue, absence of odor, and reduction in slough and fluids. Some lesions were completely closed. This group stimulated a reduction of 67 to 100% of the lesion area. In addition, the ozonized dermocosmetic promoted an antibacterial effect on the lesions of 13 patients. And there was a higher frequency of patients without pain after treatment. However, in the conventional dressing group, after 12 weeks, only a small change in the wounds was observed, without significant improvement, and only one patient had an absence of microorganisms after the treatment period. In addition, 37.50% of the patients in the conventional dressing group exhibited an increase in the lesion area, and their level of pain was considered moderate. Therefore, the ozonized dermocosmetic treatment promoted an antimicrobial effect and, thus, stimulated the process of skin wound repair.
