LULC classification of Tehri region using Landsat 7 & 8 satellite images
Year: 2025
Type: conference-paper
Abstract: The arrangement of physical and natural features on the surface of the land that are utilized and altered by humans as they travel through space is known as the LULC scenario of a given area. This study evaluates the impact on land use land change in the Tehri region of Tehri Garhwal district, Uttarakhand, India, based on GIS and Remote sensing methods. In this study, the Landsat 8 and 7 images (2000, 2010, 2020, and 2024) have been utilized to appraise the impact on land use and land change in the Tehri region. The Landsat 8 and 7 images are used to create thematic maps for the years by employing the maximum likelihood classification. In our study initial year 2000 majority of the land covered by barren land was 53.23%, the forest area held 42.54% of the land, built-up area and water body occupied only 3.75% and 0.48% respectively of the total study area. Finally, after approximately two decades, the forest area grew to 51.67%, barren land fell to 33.16%, Built-up substantially increased to 14.55%, and water body to 0.63% of the total study region. The whole scenario of LULC was changed due to human resettlement after the Hydroelectric-Dam.
