Synthesis and structure analysis of a cobalt(III) coordination compound obtained from a redox-active phenolate ligand and cobalt(II)

Abstract: In an attempt to synthesize the coordination compound [Co(H 4 L) 2 ] using Co(ClO 4 ) 2 •6H 2 O and 2,4-di-tert-butyl-6-({2-[(3,5-di-tert-butyl-2-hydroxyphenyl)amino]ethyl}amino)phenol (H 4 L), we instead obtained the compound bis{2-[(2aminoethyl)amino]-4,6-di-tert-butylphenolato-� 3 N,N 0 ,O}cobalt(III) perchlorate, [Co(C 16 H 27 N 2 O) 2 ]ClO 4 .The compound was formed through the reaction of Co II with the decomposition product of H 4 L. Using the structural data, we analyzed the behaviour of the redox-active ligand and the inter-and intramolecular interactions.
