Abstract: Considering the lack of real datasets from actual 5G networks and the high costs of implementing experimental 5G networks, researchers are struggling to create synthetic datasets to optimize networks and applications.5G network simulators are essential tools for optimizing network performance, as they provide a virtual environment to model, test, and analyze the complex behaviors of 5G networks without the need for expensive physical infrastructure or real-world trials. They are proven valuable tools to aid network engineers in understanding and improving system performance under different configurations and conditions. In this work, we present an analysis of three well-known 5G network simulators: Simu5G, Open5GS, and 5G-LENA aiming to assess the current contributions to research that each simulator has enabled in 5G networks. Our study focuses on network management and optimization using performance metrics, highlighting the most common use cases and metrics of these simulators used by the literature.
