Specific features of reproducing artistic imagery in translation from Chuvash into Russian and English (based on M. Karyagina's tragedy "The Silver Army")

Abstract: The aim of this research is to identify the specific features of reproducing artistic imagery in the translation of M. F. Karyagina's Chuvash-language tragedy, "Kĕmĕl tumlă şar", into Russian and English. The study examines translators' approaches to conveying linguistic devices that shape imagery, identifies instances of image preservation, substitution, and adaptation. The author notes differences in the emotional and stylistic coloring of the Russian and English texts. The scientific novelty lies in the compilation of a spectrum of translation solutions for rendering artistic imagery, as well as in the construction of a taxonomic comparative model of its transcoding. As a result, the following translation techniques are identified: calque, transliteration, preservation of stylistic devices, lexical substitutions, addition, omission, and descriptive translation. The Russian translation tends towards the preservation or enhancement of metaphoricity, the use of inversion, rhetorical questions, and the addition of details. The English translation is characterized by the universalization of images, the active use of emotionally charged adjectives, the prevalence of descriptive constructions, and a tendency to omit or simplify complex metaphors.
