Beyond Virtual Classrooms: A Qualitative Study of Cebu’s Nursing Licensure Exam Topnotchers after the Pandemic
Year: 2025
Type: article
Abstract: The COVID-19 pandemic necessitated a dramatic shift in educational delivery, forcing nursing students to transition from traditional face-to-face instruction to online learning. This qualitative descriptive phenomenological study explored the experiences of Philippine Nursing Licensure Examination (PNLE) topnotchers in Cebu who navigated this transition. Data was collected through in-depth interviews and analyzed thematically, revealing four key themes: (1) Laying the Foundation, (2) Overcoming Challenges and Building Resilience, (3) Support Systems and Community Connections, and (4) Achieving Success and Looking Forward. The findings highlight how the participants adapted to online learning, managed challenges such as limited resources and distractions, and leveraged support from their families and peers. Ultimately, their resilience, discipline, and strong support networks played a crucial role in their success. These insights provide valuable implications for nursing education, particularly in designing more effective online learning strategies and support systems to enhance student outcomes in similar circumstances.
