Provenance in archival knowledge organization: challenges for tackling fake news under the perspective of social epistemology

Abstract: This research aims to discuss the principle of archival provenance in the light of current emergencies in the field of knowledge organization, notably due to the necessary debate regarding fake news. Thus, a broadening of the archival concept is discussed, recognizing the importance of the present context, which, as conceived by social epistemology, encourages knowledge enhancement as an instrument to face society’s challenges, as false news and information are being heavily promoted, with delicate social and political impacts, in this context of systematic expansion of disinformation.
