Abstract: This text seeks to shed light on the teaching of advertising in Brazil during the 1930s, whose motivating element was Decree 20,158, federal legislation on Commercial Education of June 30, 1931, and establishes Commercial Education as one of the course subjects Commercial technique and advertising processes. From this decree, we identified three works written in that decade that intended to meet the curricular requirements of this law. Our task will be to present some convergent points in these three works in an attempt to understand the guiding concepts in teaching advertising at that time.
