A Study of the Information-Sharing and –Diffusing Network Analyses: In the Case of the Youtube Contents Related to the 2030 Busan World Expo

Year: 2025
Type: article
Abstract: The study's main goal was to examine the network structures regarding information sharing and diffusion on YouTube content related to the 2030 Busan World Expo.In the end, this research applied the actor network theory, which explains that various actors would become active users for information-seeking, gathering, sharing, and diffusing while using social network sites (SNS).Operationally, the whole preparation process to host the global event was divided into two time periods (period 1: June 15, 2020, to July 8, 2022 and period 2: July 9, 2022, to November 29, 2024) to look at any meaningful changes between the two periods.A total of 955 YouTube contents (113 contents in the period 1 and 842 contents in the period 2) were collected by the SNS data collector using software called NetMiner. They were analysed using two centrality methods: closeness and betweenness centralities. The results showed a lack of effective and collective communication activities over time, although the findings indicated a gradual improvement in information-sharing and diffusion. The reason would be that the level of involvement in the event during the second period was higher than during the first.Several theoretical and practical implications in terms of public communication management were discussed.
