Year: 2025
Type: article
Study design: Observational Study
Abstract: This study examined the effect of the "proportion of single-person households" on the "suicide rates" mediated by the "health lifestyle practice rates."Additionally, it further analyzed the impact of "population density" on "health lifestyle practice rate" and "suicide rates."The aim was to elucidate the importance of family and social support networks on human survival. The data used in this study were from 228 districts in 2022.The following results were carefully obtained through the bootstrap method's mediation effect analysis.First, the single-person household ratio had a significant negative effect on the suicide rate.Second, the single-person household ratio had a significant negative effect on the health lifestyle practice rate, and the health lifestyle practice rate had a significant positive effect on the suicide rate.In other words, there was a pathway from the single-person household ratio to health lifestyle practice rate to suicide rate.Third, population density did not directly affect the suicide rate but had a significant positive effect on the health lifestyle practice rate. This study highlighted the crucial importance of family and social support networks. It also suggests that consistently practicing a healthy lifestyle plays a crucial and significant role in effectively preventing suicide.
