Serum Lactate Levels and Kinetics Predict Citrate Accumulation in Regional Citrate Anticoagulation for Continuous Renal Replacement Therapy
Year: 2025
Type: article
Abstract: Regional citrate anticoagulation (RCA) is an established method of anticoagulation for continuous renal replacement therapy (CRRT). Citrate accumulation (CA) is one important complication for RCA-CRRT, especially amongst patients with liver failure or profound hypoxaemia. Accurate diagnosis and prediction of CA remains challenging, where existing means are often limited by their inconvenience, costs and availability. 1,2. Lactate is commonly measured and relatively low-cost laboratory test in the intensive care unit (ICU) setting, and here we reported the follow-up analyses of our previous multi-centre prospective study to determine the clinical utility of serum lactate for monitoring and predicting CA in RCA-CRRT 3.
