Cognitive Functioning and Biological Differences in Heart Failure: A Matter of Sex or Disease?

Year: 2025
Type: article
Abstract: The occurrence of cognitive deficits is higher in patients with heart failure (HF) than in age-matched control subjects. Cognitive deficits are known to affect quality of life and self-care abilities, and increases the hospitalization risk and mortality rate, adding to the complexity of the disease. Research has shown that in women HF has its own phenotype and risk factors. These differences might also contribute to cognitive deficits in men and women with HF.
