Gastric cancer (GC) families as a whole face the stressful time of cancer together and the quality of life of both the patient and the family can be affected. Most past researchers have focused on the quality of life of gastric cancer patients but have neglected the role that caregivers or family members play in the treatment process. The purpose of this study was to examine the factors influencing quality of life of gastric cancer patients and their social life and relationship. Four themes emerged from the study, which were contextual factors (disease-specific factors, physical and social environments and individual & family characteristics), knowledge and belief factors, self-regulation factors and social facilitators (positive motivation and emotional support from family, friends, and society).
