The liver is inherently yin in substance but functions through yang; it governs the storage of blood and regulates the flow of qi. It favors gentleness and dislikes rigidity, relying on kidney water for nourishment and on the spleen and stomach to reinforce earth and nurture wood in harmonious coordination. For women, the liver is considered the foundation of innate constitution. In the clinical treatment of gynecological disorders, core pathomechanisms such as liver blood deficiency, liver qi stagnation transforming into fire, and disharmony of the Chong and Ren meridians should be addressed in accordance with the liver’s physiological characteristics. It is essential to consistently emphasize nourishing the blood and softening the liver—employing sweet, moistening, and rich medicinals to replenish liver blood, while also using pungent and lubricating agents to soothe the liver and relieve stagnation. At the same time, attention must be given to the synergistic regulation of the liver, spleen, and kidney to ensure the smooth flow of liver qi, sufficient liver blood, and proper nourishment of the Chong and Ren vessels.
