“a Vague Hangover”: the Anthropology and Historiosophy of the “u” Sound (“the Faded Fun of the Mad Years...” by A. S. Pushkin and “two Destinies” by V. S. Vysotsky)
Year: 2025
Type: article
Abstract: Taking into account the broad context of phonosemantic research, the article implements an aesthetic-psychophysiological hypothesis about the correlation of the sound “u” with the state of а “vague hangover”. Based on the material of specific texts by A. S. Pushkin and V. S. Vysotsky, the functional and semantic role of the “hangover” sound is shown: in Pushkin’s elegy it transforms and softens (“I’ll get drunk on harmony”, “love”), and in Vysotsky’s poem it ends with a complex of prolonged fading “u-u-i-i-a-a”. This comparison allows us to draw conclusions of an anthropological and historiosophical order.
