A Support Vector Probabilistic Outlier Detection Method for Data Cleaning

Year: 2025
Type: article
Abstract: The focus of this study is to critically evaluate the task of outlier detection in numerical datasets using the Support Vector Probabilistic Outlier Detection (SVPOD) model. The adopted data about the graduate business school dataset was taken from Kaggle. The data has employment details, where ‘employment before’ is the training input and ‘employment after’ is the testing input. Thus, it is safe to say that the model has a comprehensive solution integrating Support Vector Machines (SVMs) with probabilistic frameworks to identify outliers precisely. The study begins with a statement of the problem and the significance of the detection of outliers in the process of data cleaning and analyses. The proposed solution combines statistical and probabilistic methods with machine learning (ML) algorithms to identify outliers within the numerical datasets. Experimental evaluation shows the performance level of the SVPOD model, with more than 80% accuracy for outlier detection and 20% for corresponding misclassification. The sensitive analysis result found that the model has optimal performance across different probabilities, which shows it can adapt to different cases of outlier detection. Future work might need to explore ensemble learning techniques and unexplored methods, such as deep learning architectures and Bayesian approaches, to further improve detection methodologies. Reflecting on the research process, some critical observations were noted, including challenges in tackling data quality issues, and optimizing the complexities in model training. Ethical issues of data privacy and fairness in decision-making are also noted.
