“Exploring the Role of English Literature in Advancing Sustainable Development Goals”

Year: 2025
Type: article
Abstract: English literature has long served as a powerful medium for reflecting societal values and inspiring transformative action. This paper explores the role of English literature in advancing the United Nations' Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) by examining how literary works contribute to raising awareness, shaping critical thought, and driving meaningful discourse on issues like climate action, gender equality, social justice, and quality education. By analysing selected works of English literature through the lens of specific SDGs, this study highlights the profound capacity of literature to foster global citizenship, empathy, and advocacy for sustainable development. The findings underscore the relevance of literature as a cultural and educational tool in promoting the values and principles underpinning the SDGs, ultimately advocating for its greater integration into educational curricula and societal frameworks for sustainable growth
