Type: article
Abstract: President Dilma Rousseff, elected for a second term from 2014 to 2016, was impeached as a result of a series of disastrous measures in the management of the economy, which led to uncontrolled inflation, above the center of the target, a slowdown in the economy, low growth rates, weakening of fiscal indicators, all this, combined with external imbalance, rising food prices and the basic food basket, growing fiscal deficits in public accounts, lack of control over spending, falling revenues, added to political isolation, loss of support in Congress and corruption scandals: the result - a severe economic recession never before seen in the country. The aim of this study is to comparatively analyze President Lula's third term in office with President Dilma Rousseff's second administration (2014-2016) in the context of the economy. For the study, a literature review was used as methodology, aiming to answer the following research question: 'Does President Lula's third term present the same configurations, characteristics and model as the second Dilma government (2014-2016) in the economy? As a result, it has become clear that the current Lula government, in its third term, is repeating the same economic model used in Dilma's government. A model that relies on domestic consumption, price controls and interventionism, spending more than it takes in and the use of populist social programs that are, in fact, the hallmark of the PT (Workers' Party). The study hypothesizes that this economic model may be outdated, which the government seems to be ignoring in the face of the new global economic scenario. However, the current Lula government is not the Dilma Rousseff government, and they have no similarities; they have different political styles and strategies. The President still retains charisma, political articulation and a certain amount of political capital.
