Interplaceslicity in the mythopoetics of Sasha Sokolov’s novel “Between Dog and Wolf”
Year: 2025
Type: article
Abstract: The aim of the research is to develop and test an original methodology of interplacesplicit analysis, using Sasha Sokolov’s novel “Between Dog and Wolf” as a case study, in order to identify, reconstruct, and interpret mythopoetic interactions that shape the unique dynamics of artistic space – both at the level of the text’s physical organization and in its deeper semantic layers. The article examines the phenomenon of interplaceslicity as a new methodological approach to exploring the mythopoetics of Sokolov’s novel. The scholarly novelty of this research consists primarily in the formulation and theoretical substantiation of a new category – interplaceslicity – as a specific variety of multilayered, implicit interactions within a literary text. Important innovations include the development of a conceptual apparatus enabling the analysis of textual “voids” and interstitial spaces not merely as irrational lacunae or literary byproducts, but as functionally significant elements organizing the structure of the literary work; the theoretical and practical validation of interplacesplicit analysis using a specific work of fiction (Sasha Sokolov’s “Between Dog and Wolf”). The study finds that in Sasha Sokolov’s “Between Dog and Wolf”, semantic dynamics arise not only among explicitly expressed elements but predominantly at the seams, boundaries, and transitional zones – which prove to be active fields of sense-making. The method of interplacesplicit analysis has been developed, thoroughly described, and theoretically justified. Various forms of manifestation of “voids”, lacunae, and interstitial borders are identified and classified.
