Development and Challenges of Personalized Medicine

Year: 2025
Type: article
Abstract: Considering that individuals have unique characteristics at the molecular, physiological, environmental exposure, and behavioral levels, they may require interventions that are specifically tailored to their individual disease characteristics. The concept of personalized medicine, which involves the individualized adaptation of treatment approaches, is based on this principle. This concept has increasingly become established with the use of modern technologies such as DNA sequencing, proteomics, visualization techniques, and health monitoring devices. These technologies enable the identification of significant individual variations in disease processes, which in turn allows for more precise treatment options. Although genetics forms the core foundation of personalized medicine, it is equally important to consider environmental influences, epigenetic changes, and lifestyle factors, as they contribute to an individual's health condition and the development of diseases. For example, epigenetic changes affect gene activity, while environmental and lifestyle factors have molecular-level effects and can play a significant role in both disease prevention and treatment. The development of personalized medicine requires the integration of various elements and their merging in the evaluation process. This necessitates a comprehensive analysis of genetic, environmental, epigenetic, and lifestyle factors. Technological advances and new research create new opportunities that support the implementation of personalized medicine. Keywords: Biomarkers, Precision medicine.
