Effect of asymmetric diffuser deflector on even distribution of steam leaving blade section of steam turbine: comparative computational study
Year: 2025
Type: article
Abstract: This paper presents a computational study comparing different designs of a steam turbine diffuser deflector. The deflector directs and slows down the steam flow, which affects the static pressure behind the last stage blades of the turbine. The computational comparison is carried out for the current diffuser deflector geometry of turbine 1000 MW compared to the innovative design developed by the authors. A comparative computational study was made using computational fluid dynamics based on the finite volume method, namely the ANSYS CFX commercial SW package was used. The innovative diffuser deflector geometry presents an asymmetric shape of the diffuser for suitable steam flow. That results in increasing the power of the last stage blades of steam turbines by up to 5%.
