Abstract: This article provides a critical examination of the interplay between globalization and industrialization in shaping urbanization trends and their effects on rural populations in Ukraine. The author delves into the concept of rural decline, articulating various factors that contribute to this phenomenon, such as economic pressures, demographic changes, and the migration of youth to urban areas in search of better opportunities. These trends not only lead to population decreases in rural regions but also result in the erosion of traditional practices and community structures. Moreover, the article raises pressing questions about the sustainability of the current civilization model, which often prioritizes rapid industrial growth at the expense of rural vitality. It critiques the shift from traditional, sustainable knowledge and skills toward modern technologies that can be less environmentally friendly and community-oriented. This critique posits that such a transformation may exacerbate rural decline rather than mitigate it. A central theme of the discussion is whether rural communities can adapt and thrive in this new global context. The author explores the potential for villages to forge a successful identity while preserving their cultural subjectivity and resourcefulness. This question is particularly relevant as it calls for innovative approaches that reconcile the benefits of modernization with the need to maintain rural livelihoods and ecosystems. Overall, the article offers a nuanced perspective on the challenges and opportunities facing rural Ukraine amid global shifts, highlighting the importance of balancing development with sustainability.
