Year: 2025
Type: article
Abstract: ABSTRACT This article discusses the contribution of family businesses to the socio-economic development of Laranjal do Jari (AP) according to local, urban and riverside communities. Using a mixed techniques approach – in which secondary data was used and a semi-structured survey was applied to a group of companies – the study maps the profile of these companies, their management, the main obstacles they face and their perspectives on growth possibilities. The results show that commercial and food activities predominate, there is a high level of informality and management by family fairs, and low use of technical tools. Entrepreneurs, who face structural obstacles such as restricted access to credit and training, expressed optimism about the potential for growth locally. The article refers to authors such as Bourdieu, De Soto, Sen and Yunus to interpret family business as an enabler of resilience, inclusion and territorial change. Theoretical and practical recommendations are provided regarding actions to formalize, train and strengthen local production chains with the intention of consolidating family businesses as a vector for sustainable development.
