Abstract: In this paper, an elastic stiffness model for an ionomer-laminated hybrid glass beam–column connection prototype is proposed. The model is developed using a thorough analytical approach based on the component method used for steel and composite connections. The connection is modeled as a set of discrete deformable components represented by translational springs. The stiffness of each spring is determined using an analytical formulation based on assumptions regarding the distribution of forces in a reinforced glass section, a simplified elastic stress field geometry, and possible pullout effects. These assumptions and behavior of springs on prototype specimens are validated using detailed digital image correlation and strain gauges measurements. The proposed model is compared with the experimental moment–rotation curves of the tested connections. It appears that the model assumptions on the level of the components are reasonably accurate when compared to reality. Also, the overall model prediction is in good agreement with the realistic behavior of the joint prototype.
