Abstract: Background: Rising global anxiety and stress highlight the importance of supporting perinatal mental health and preventing birth-related trauma—defined as physical and emotional suffering arising from complications or negative experiences during childbirth. Such trauma can have lasting effects, increasing risks of postpartum depression, anxiety, and PTSD, while impacting self-confidence, joy in motherhood, and family relationships. Educational interventions equip women with knowledge, coping skills, and realistic expectations, reducing helplessness and building resilience, thereby preventing or mitigating birth-related trauma. Objective: To develop an educational intervention for pregnant women that reduces traumatic birth experiences, mitigates negative mental health symptoms, and improves perinatal well-being. Method: A systematic review of educational interventions focusing on mental health, birth trauma prevention, and satisfaction with birth experiences among pregnant women was conducted. Key variables included intervention components, participant and educator characteristics, and educational effectiveness. An expert panel assessed the newly designed intervention. Results: Data from eligible publications showed educational interventions effectively reduce birth trauma risk by lowering PTSD symptoms and fear of childbirth, enhancing self-efficacy, and fostering positive birth experiences. These interventions also improve satisfaction and reduce pain, aiding in trauma prevention. However, methods and content vary widely, seldom addressing all key outcomes comprehensively. Based on these findings, a targeted, evidence-based educational intervention was developed for implementation in Lithuania. Conclusions: This intervention emphasizes comprehensive childbirth preparation, psychological resilience, and supportive networks. By providing education, accurate information, and consistent support, it aims to reduce traumatic birth risks and enhance satisfaction with maternity care.
