Abstract: Many thinkers have been using the concept of populism to try understand the rise of extremist moviments around the world. Therefore, our paper analyzes the populism concept developed by one of the greatest researchers of this phenomenon in the current period, namely, Nadia Urbinati. With this analysis, we propose to assess the pertinence of Urbinati’s thought for the studies about the crises of representative democracy. In our approach, will be prioritized the antiestablishment and antipolitics elements in the Urbinati’s concept of populism.
