Unconventional S-orbital state of Tb and cooperative Ru(4d)–Tb(4f) spin-ordering in the strongly correlated 4d–4f system Ba 3 TbRu 2 O 9

Abstract: We resolved the spin structure of Ba 3 TbRu 2 O 9 , revealing rare cooperative spin-ordering of Ru(4d) and Tb(4f). We report an unconventional s-orbital ( L = 0) state of Tb, and the S = 1 ground state of Ru, in contrast to all other members in this family.
