Abstract: The aim of this article was to examine the perceived views of professors on challenges of multilingual education in the current political landscape of Ethiopia. The study was qualitative and it used interview and focus group discussion. The findings of the study revealed that the rise of ethnocentric mentality has brought enormous complexities in the process of giving recognition for the minority language groups. The most visible challenges of multilingual education in Ethiopia are the state of being monolingual in a multilingual society, the wrongly-held perception of ethnocentric elites on the lingua franca language of the nation and the language-based boundaries.
