Type: article
Abstract: This theoretical study focuses on the curricular reforms of Brazilian professional education under the influence of neoliberal policies associated with the expansion of neoconservatism in the current global context. The aim is to discuss the influences of neoliberal and neoconservative policies on Brazilian professional education, seeking to understand the relationship between economic and political interests at play on the global and national stage and the changes in national legislation regarding the provision and organization of vocational courses. The study was based on a bibliographic review of the literature, involving the description and analysis of 11 theses and 6 dissertations produced between 2013 and 2023, which were mapped in the CAPES Repository. It is understood that neoliberalism, associated with neoconservatism, unfolds in the production of a reform agenda in contemporary educational policies. Neoliberal and neoconservative educational policies are committed to advancing capitalism through a business logic that prioritizes competitiveness, productivism, entrepreneurship, effectiveness, and efficiency in terms of outcomes. Under this logic, the association with neoconservative thinking translates into the understanding that social inequalities are naturalized, considering that the success or failure of each individual is not caused by the material conditions of existence generated by the unequal distribution of wealth and injustices. social, but rather the result of the efforts made by the subjects in their training and career. Freedom of choice is the principle that strengthens the meritocratic character of professionalization, encouraging self-entrepreneurs to be responsible for their success or failure.
