Abstract: Despite progress in favor of gender equality, our society is still marked by a cisheteronormative norm that marginalizes dissenting experiences. Considering the school as a reflection of society, it becomes crucial to discuss these issues in educational spaces. This research aims to identify, through discursive positions, the challenges and support of the LGBTQIA+ community at the Rio Grande campus of IFRS. Specifically, it seeks to: (1) examine the feelings of belonging to the campus among LGBTQIA+ students; (2) map the profile of this community; and (3) propose mitigation strategies for the identified challenges. The research follows a qualitative approach, with data collected through a questionnaire voluntarily answered by students. Results indicate that, although most feel welcomed, significant vulnerabilities exist. Many reported verbal or physical violence related to sexual orientation or gender identity throughout their lives, and 26.67% stated that these incidents occurred on campus. Additionally, while some feel protected, 43.75% pointed out that this feeling varies depending on the environment. These findings highlight the need for institutional actions to strengthen security and support. It is hoped that the results of this research will contribute to the academic community of the Rio Grande campus, promoting debates, reflections, and transformative actions regarding the challenges faced by the LGBTQIA+ community.
