Type: article
Abstract: Unequal access to some social groups within the education system is a long-term problem in Slovakia. Although we are gradually managing to integrate students with health disadvantages, we are not so successful with students from socially disadvantaged backgrounds. The study focuses on examining the impact of the school environment on Roma students. The results presented in the study come from qualitative research, the aim of which was to find out how the probands perceived manifestations of racism during their education. The research sample created using the snowball technique consisted of 12 probands. The semi-structured interview method was used to collect data. The interviews were transcribed and subsequently analyzed using thematic content analysis. The findings confirm that elements of discrimination still occur in Slovak schools, which can have a negative impact on the access of Roma students to education.
