Revealing the True Nature of Double‐Peak Emission in 2D Perovskite Single Crystals Using Polariton Waveguides

Year: 2025
Type: article
Abstract: In recent years, hybrid organic–inorganic perovskites have attracted great interest due to their intriguing properties, which make them ideal for a wide range of optoelectronic applications. This work provides new insights into the understanding of the structure‐property relationship in Dion–Jacobson perovskites and demonstrates that their exciton characteristics can be easily tuned through distortion of the crystalline lattice. Moreover, an explanation is offered for the double‐peak emission frequently observed in these materials, whose nature is widely debated in the literature. To investigate this, size‐controlled crystalline microwires are synthesised using a microfluidic‐assisted synthesis technique and integrated them into a nanophotonic device to explore their behaviour in the strong coupling regime. The findings unambiguously demonstrate that such anomalous emission is related to polariton modes arising from strong light‐matter interactions between the waveguided modes confined in perovskite microwires and perovskite excitons.
