Abstract: Cardiovascular diseases (CVD) are among the most common causes of morbidity and mortality worldwide affecting the high risk groups including elderly people, diabetics, hypertensives and those who have family histories of CVD.In this paper we critically assess pharmacological solutions: statins, antihypertensive, antiplatelets; and novelties, such as PCSK9 inhibitors and SGLT2 inhibitors, to prevent cardiovascular incidents in these populations.Using clinical trials, cohort analysis and epidemiological studies it explains these treatments lowered rates of myocardial infarction, stroke, heart failure hospitalization and overall mortality.Despite statin and PCSK9 inhibitors showing the greatest clinical benefits, problems like patient noncompliance, side effects, and the high cost of newly introduced drugs can be transcendent.Furthermore, costlybenefit reveals that older treatments such as statins and ACE inhibitors are cheap as compared to the new drugs which are efficient but not easily available and affordable by low and middle-income countries. This paper focuses on the applicability of the clinical effectiveness and economic rationality of measures for the prevention and control of cardiovascular diseases as the basis for the formation of public health policies within the globalization context.
