Abstract: The rapid expansion of digital connectivity has led to an overwhelming volume of publicly available information, much of which holds valuable insights for cybersecurity applications.Open-Source Intelligence (OSINT) has emerged as a vital approach for collecting, analyzing, and utilizing data from open sources to support threat detection, risk assessment, and decision-making processes.At the same time, the increasing complexity and scale of modern IT and IoT infrastructures have exposed new security challenges, necessitating continuous vulnerability assessment and ethical hacking practices.This survey paper explores the current landscape of OSINT techniques and their integration with vulnerability scanning and penetration testing methodologies.We analyze the role of OSINT in enhancing cyber defense strategies, its effectiveness in identifying potential attack vectors, and its contribution to proactive security measures.The paper also examines existing approaches to vulnerability assessment, highlighting both technical and organizational aspects.By synthesizing research across these domains, we provide a comprehensive overview of existing techniques, their limitations, and future directions for strengthening cybersecurity through intelligent, datadriven methods.
