Numerical simulation of filter plate influence on flow field uniformity in dust collectors

Abstract: With the acceleration of industrialization, dust pollution in industrial production has become increasingly severe, posing significant threats to occupational health and environmental ecosystems. Cartridge dust collectors are widely employed in high-dust-concentration environments such as mining and tunneling operations due to their efficient particulate removal capabilities and operational stability. However, flow field uniformity within these systems critically determines performance outcomes; heterogeneous flow distributions may induce uneven particle dispersion and elevated flow resistance, ultimately compromising filtration efficiency. This study utilizes numerical simulation techniques to conduct a comparative analysis of flow field characteristics between filter plate and cartridge dust collectors. The results indicate that the filter plate dust collector significantly enhances flow field uniformity, increasing air volume consistency by 6%. Additionally, air velocity fluctuations are notably reduced, with peak velocity differentials in the filtration area decreasing by 17% compared to cartridge dust collectors. Turbulence intensity is generally lower across all cross-sections, with minimal variation between adjacent filter plates. These findings not only demonstrate the influence of filter plates on flow field uniformity but also provide a theoretical foundation for the design and optimization of dust collectors. This can lead to improved performance of industrial dust collection systems, thereby promoting occupational health and environmental protection.
