Year: 2025
Type: article
Abstract: This study explores the participatory design process undertaken in Penanggungan Village, Trawas, Mojokerto, to develop a new village market and multifunctional hall. The project aimed to foster community engagement, enhance infrastructure, and stimulate economic growth. Through a series of interviews, surveys, and workshops, the needs and aspirations of the local residents were carefully assessed. This data-driven approach ensured that the design concepts were aligned with the community's specific requirements and priorities. The participatory design process empowered the community to actively shape their own environment. By providing input at every stage of the project, residents felt a sense of ownership and investment in the final outcome. This approach not only fostered a strong sense of community but also ensured that the new infrastructure was truly responsive to local needs. The resulting market and multifunctional hall are more than just physical structures. They are tangible manifestations of the community's collective vision and aspirations. These spaces are designed to promote economic activity, social cohesion, and environmental sustainability, contributing to the overall well-being of the village. The experience of Penanggungan Village underscores the importance of community-driven approaches to infrastructure development. By involving residents in the decision-making process, it is possible to create spaces that are not only functional but also meaningful and sustainable.
