Abstract: "This article dives into Spanish post-war literature to track the presence of the character of the maid in this period’s narrative. The role of the maid has not been studied by the literary canon, which has set its focus on those professions carried out by men. The figure is present in male-authored narrative, but it is in female literature where its presence gets more relevant. More specifically, it takes an interesting position within the narrative works of Concha Castroviejo, one of the main female authors of this period, and for this reason, our research focuses on the texts of this Galician author and journalist. A press article from 1953 allows the examination of the problems faced by these female workers, which serves as a way to understand the socio-occupational circumstances of women in domestic service. The aim of this article is not to research the occupational world of the maids, but their literary image in the work of Castroviejo."
