Evaluation of the Dynamics of Natural Regeneration After Disturbance by Fire in a Nucleation Area

Year: 2025
Type: article
Abstract: Objective: Evaluate the dynamics of natural regeneration under Anderson cores after fire action. Theoretical framework: Anderson Nuclei accelerate the restoration of degraded areas, promote the growth of selected species, inhibit the growth of invasive grasses, and facilitate colonization by other species, efficiently and economically contributing to environmental restoration. Methods: The nuclei were implanted in 2011 at FAECA/UFGD. For statistical analysis, Non-Metric Multidimensional Scaling was applied to order based on a Bray-Curtis dissimilarity matrix. Multivariate Analysis of Variance was used to test differences between the observation times of response variables. Results and conclusion: The first assessment (2017), which occurred before the fire in the area, had 440 individuals recorded. In the second assessment, which occurred after the fire in the area, there was a reduction to the number of 186 individuals. In the third assessment (2022), 116 individuals were recorded, and in the fourth assessment (2023), 121 individuals were recorded. Research implications: Research in Atlantic Forest areas is of paramount importance in ecological restoration since forest fragments are decreasing more and more. In addition to this, there is the evaluation of the regeneration dynamics of Anderson Nuclei, which are extremely important for the formation of micro-habitats for fauna and for fragment connection. Originality/value: Planting seedlings in nuclei forms crucial micro-habitats for dispersing fauna, but they can be affected by management, fire, and other impacts, hindering regeneration. Thus, we evaluate the dynamics of regeneration of Anderson nuclei post-fire.
