Year: 2025
Type: article
Abstract: Background Active learning strategies are increasingly used in nursing education to enhance transferable skills. Podcast creation enables students to engage in collaborative learning while developing communication, creativity, and teamwork—competencies essential to clinical practice. Aim To evaluate the perceived educational impact of podcast production on transferable skill development in undergraduate health sciences students. Methods A convergent parallel mixed-methods study was conducted with 102 students (51 nursing, 51 occupational therapy) at a public Spanish university. Students worked in teams to design and produce educational podcasts. Data collection included a validated 20-item Likert-scale questionnaire and open-ended responses. Descriptive statistics and t-tests were used for quantitative analysis; thematic analysis was applied to qualitative data. Results Students reported improvements in communication (72%), collaboration (75%), and creativity (68%). No significant differences were found by program, gender, or podcast experience. Qualitative themes included enhanced comprehension, teamwork challenges, and creative engagement. Conclusions Podcast production is a feasible and engaging strategy to support transferable skill development in nursing education. Findings offer practical implications for associate degree programs focused on clinical communication and teamwork.
