What is inside the during intraepithelial lesion: apoptosis?

Year: 2025
Type: article
Abstract: Aim. To summarize the material on changes in intracellular interactions, including apoptosis-dependent ones, in the cervix under the influence of the human papillomavirus (HPV) during the formation of neoplastic processes. Key points. During the study of pathological processes in the cervix, the cause-and-effect interactions between human papillomavirus infection and cervical cancer were reliably determined, which made it possible to formulate a clear scheme of cervical carcinogenesis: HPV integration, persistence, precancerous changes and the final stage — invasion. However, monitoring the condition of the cervix among patients of reproductive age using diagnostic schemes provided for by regulatory documents today is still difficult. Currently, it is important to develop diagnostic measures using prognostic markers that will improve the management algorithms for women with questionable cervical prospects and a high risk of cervical cancer. Conclusion. Not every HPV infection process ends in cervical cancer. It is assumed that the probability of progression of precancerous lesions is closely related to apoptotic interactions. Changes in apoptosis inside the cell directly depend on the influence of HPV on the cell of the multilayered squamous epithelium, thereby partly determining the probability of further atypization. Keywords: cervical cancer, apoptosis, human papillomavirus, immunity, caspases, oncoproteins, interleukin.
