Microstructure and texture evolution of the oxide scale on hot rolled corrosion-resistant steel

Year: 2025
Type: article
Abstract: : The texture evolution and microstructure transformation of scale on high-strength, corrosion-resistant steel during hot rolling were studied through simulated rolling in a laboratory and electron backscattering diffraction analysis in a scanning electron microscope. The results showed that the Fe 3 O 4 phase in the scale had dual-phase isomerism, with the Fe 3 O 4 phase in the oxide layer and at the interface of the oxide layer and matrix having columnar crystal and equiaxed spherical morphologies, respectively. The FeO phase forms a strong fiber texture in the{100}direction, and the triangular Fe 2 O 3 phase forms a fiber texture in the{0001}direction. As the reduction rate increases from 12% to 20%, the{110}< > texture of Fe 3 O 4 changes to{112}< >, and the Schmidt factor decreases from 0.4841 to 0.4232. The grains with a higher Schmidt factor could undergo plastic deformation earlier than those with a lower Schmidt factor. The introduction of the Schmidt factor clarified the behavior of texture evolution during high-temperature plastic deformation. The formation of fine-grained Fe 3 O 4 at the interface of steel matrix is governed by the stress relief mechanism.
