The Transformation of Traditional Streetscape Through the Suburbanisation of Residential Areas: a Case of Kohama, Takarazuka City
Year: 2025
Type: article
Abstract: This study shows how the streetscape with traditional houses has changed during the conversion of historic settlements into suburban residential areas. In Kohama, Takarazuka, the city government established a landscape plan just before the Great Hanshin-Awaji Earthquake damaged many historic houses in this area. The character of Kohama was changed to a suburban residential area and now few historic buildings remain. However, there are cases of new houses being built in consideration of the traditional townscape, and the effect of creating a historic landscape is emerging.
