Synthesis of S - and N,S -heterocycles by gold-catalyzed cyclizations

Abstract: This report summarizes our recent results in the synthesis of original benzo[b]thiophene and thiazepane derivatives through gold(I)-catalyzed cyclizations. The key-step was an intramolecular carbothiolation consisting in a C-S bond-formation and subsequent S-to-C allyl or propargyl migration. The obtained heterocycles having a propargyl or an allenyl substituent were then involved in a second gold-catalyzed cyclization. This gave access to new derivatives with higher structural complexity, such as 3-indenyl benzo[b]thiophenes via an intramolecular hydroarylation or heterobicyclo[4.3.1] systems via a cycloisomerization of 1,6-enynes.
