1,3-bis(dimethylaminomethyl)(thio)ureas – New Reagents for Catalytic Aminomethylation of N- and S-nucleophiles

Abstract: This author's brief review covers works for the period 2013 ‒ 2019, which reflects publications on the synthesis of new electrophilic reagents based on 1,3-bis(dimethylaminomethyl)(thio)urea obtained by the reaction of (thio)urea with bis(dimethylamino)methane. Subsequent transformations of 1,3-bis(dimethylaminomethyl)(thio)urea in catalytic amino- and thiomethylation with N,S-nucleophiles make it possible to obtain nitrogen and sulfur-containing saturated heterocyclic and acyclic compounds.Amines, amides and hydrazides of carboxylic acids, as well as α,ω-dithiols act as N- and S-nucleophiles. The mini-review is dedicated to the memory of the teacher and mentor – Doctor of Chemical Sciences, Professor Askhat Gabdrakhmanovich Ibragimov.
