La dirección del cambio analógico: la influencia del subjuntivo sobre el indicativo en el tema de presente en catalán y occitano antiguo y moderno
Year: 2025
Type: article
Abstract: There is a long grammatical tradition that states that, in the case of an analogical change, it is the indicative mood that affects the subjunctive mood. The motivation for this analysis lies in the appearance in the Catalan language of velarised verb forms in the present subjunctive which are not motivated by an analogical change coming from the imitation of the indicative mood. The methodology used in this paper was none other than the elaboration of a corpus using mainly the Oxford Online Database of Romance Verb Morphology. The analysis of the data shows indications that the subjunctive mood may be more productive than has traditionally been considered and, in conclusion, in those verbs with a velar consonant in the ending, the present subjunctive has exerted its influence on the first-person singular of the indicative.
