Compatibility Study of Formation Waters in an Oil Field of Orenburg Region

Year: 2025
Type: article
Abstract: A study of the stability and compatibility of formation waters is being conducted at one of the oil fields in the Orenburg Region in order to optimize the reservoir pressure maintenance (RPM) system. The study uses tracer studies that have revealed hydrodynamic connections between wells. This information helps to better understand the distribution of fluid flows within the field and assess the potential risks of mixing different types of water. To assess the stability and compatibility of water, laboratory tests are carried out to determine the content of calcium ions. This is important because high concentrations of calciumions can lead to the formation of insoluble salts of carbonate and calcium sulfate, which negatively affects the operation of equipment and the efficiency of the entire RPM system. Analysis of changes in the concentration of calcium ions allows us to judge the formation of insoluble salts, which helps to predict possible problems and take timely measures. Laboratory tests were carried out on water samples taken from wells No. 517, No. 525 and No. 909. The results of the tests confirmed the importance of taking into account a number of factors affecting the formation of salt deposits. Key aspects include the presence of crystallization centers, the speed of water flow, and the level of turbulence in the environment. These parameters determine the conditions under which sedimentation and plug formation in pipelines and equipment are possible. The data obtained emphasized the need for careful selection of effective scale inhibitors. Such chemical additives will help prevent sediment accumulation and ensure stable operation of the RPM system, minimizing the risk of emergency situations and extending the service life of the equipment.
