Hyperammonemic Encephalopathy in Fibrolamellar Hepatocellular Carcinoma: A Case of Rapid Neurologic Recovery Following Cytoreductive Surgery
Year: 2025
Type: article
Study design: Case Report
Abstract: Fibrolamellar hepatocellular carcinoma (FLHCC) is a rare liver malignancy affecting adolescents and young adults, accounting for less than 1% of primary hepatic cancers. Unlike conventional hepatocellular carcinoma, FLHCC is typically not associated with cirrhosis or underlying liver disease. 1 Consequently, causes of altered mental status such as hepatic encephalopathy are often overlooked in this population.
