Abstract: The article describes the process of adaptation of the scale of motivation to read in adults by N. S. Schutte and J. M. Malouff. The procedures of direct and reverse translation of questionnaire statements, verification of test items (calculation of difficulty and discriminativeness indicators), calculation of convergent and discriminant validity, one-time and retest reliability are described. According to the results of structural modeling, it is shown that the structure of the original technique differs from the structure of the adapted technique. The original technique consists of a general scale and 4 subscales: reading as a part of oneself, reading efficiency, reading to ensure one's success in other areas of life, reading for recognition. One of the scales "reading for recognition" (3 questions) was excluded from the Russian-language technique, since both the difficulty and discriminativeness indicators turned out to be unsatisfactory and the structural model, which included this scale, did not have adequate suitability criteria. Convergent and discriminant validity were tested using the following methods: the Need for Cognition Scale by J. Cacioppo; the Diagnostics of Experiences in Activity by D. A. Leontiev and E. N. Osin; the Self-Efficacy Scale by R. Schwarzer and M. Jerusalem; the Utrecht Work Engagement Scale by W. Scheifelli and A. Becker; the Proactive Attitudes Scale by R. Schwarzer; and the Professional Time Perspective of the Future questionnaire by H. Zacher and M. Frese. The final version of the adapted Russian-language version of the Reading Motivation Scale by N. S. Schutte and J. M. Malooff consists of 18 questions, 3 subscales (reading as a part of oneself, reading efficiency, reading to ensure one's success in other areas of life) and one general scale of reading motivation.
