Abstract: This article examines Christianity’s contribution to recognizing equality between men and women, focusing on its impact on 1st-century Jewish culture and highlighting its social and religious innovations. The study explores Christianity’s affirmation of the essential equality of the sexes, rooted in the belief that humans are created in the image of God. Additionally, it discusses the prohibition of repudiation as a measure to safeguard women’s dignity, challenging the patriarchal norms of the time. The article further addresses women’s participation in public spheres, including their role in spreading the Christian message and their unprecedented prominence in early Christian communities. Finally, it reflects on the recognition of motherhood and shared responsibility in caregiving, emphasizing their importance within familial and communal life. This study concludes by underscoring how Christianity advanced fundamental principles of equality and dignity, which remain highly relevant in contemporary discussions on the equality of the sexes.
